Hero- Giving Back

Going above and beyond the duties of a golf club, the Costa Mesa Men’s GC each year supports its neighbors the Fairview Development Center through an annual golf tournament. Just last year alone the club raised $6,500 for the facility, which provides acute, skilled nursing and immediate care to individuals with intellectual disabilities who need 24-hour support. These services include training in: daily living, vocational, leisure, academic, communication, mobility, socialization, and community skills.

“For us, it is a way to pay it forward,” said Fred Hartman, former president of Costa Mesa Men’s GC. “It is a simple way to enjoy a sport we all love, increase comradery for our group of golfers and raise money for a good cause.”

In 2014, the charitable efforts saw participation from 188 club members. In addition, local business provided donations, all benefitting the nearby facility, which is one of five state-operated developmental centers operated by the Department of Developmental Services.

“We all walked away from the day knowing we had made life better for someone else,” said Hartman, whose club plays out of the Costa Mesa G & CC.

Costa Mesa Men’s GC has supported charitable efforts for the past 40 years. If your club would like to get involved in similar efforts, please contact info@scga.org.
