True Spec Golf Opens at La Costa

Your golf swing may be as unique as your fingerprint. Yet chances are pretty good that there’s at least one in 30,000-some combinations of shafts and clubheads out there that works better than all of them for you. I was reminded of that this past Friday evening, when independent clubfitting company True Spec Golf officially unveiled its latest studio on the driving range at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad. This clubfitting center comes in the form of an industrial-looking, state-of-the-art, open-air shipping container — replete with a wall of the latest shafts and throngs of the newest clubheads from many major brands. There’s also an adjacent covered hitting bay armed with sophisticated video cameras, loft and lie machine, and Trackman launch monitor — to help dial golfers into the perfect clubs for their games. “This is really an amazing set-up,” says Dustin Irwin, PGA director of golf at La Costa. “Getting fitted for clubs is key to improving your game, especially where you can hit the ball outdoors and see the full ball flight while going through your fitting session.” This is the company’s 15th studio to open, and the only one in California. The others are spread throughout six countries and three continents.
