Bridgestone’s Riding On New Clubs

Give Bridgestone Golf some credit. The company sells awesome golf balls — even Tiger Woods plays them — but has never really been given much consideration for its clubs. Now there’s a new opportunity for golfers to try the brand’s latest sticks. The new TOUR B JGR line — consisting of a driver ($399), fairway woods ($229), hybrids ($219) and two sets of irons ($849/HF1, $899/HF2) — aims to help all skill levels improve. The driver, fairway woods and hybrids sport a milled pattern across the entire face for low spin, even on misses, for distance, plus internal and external slits that allow the crown to flex at impact, for a higher launch. The HF2 game-improvement iron features an inner cavity filled with vibration-dampening polymer that promotes a crisp sound and feel at impact. Curiously, the grips are yellow. But the clubs are very nice looking and feel great to swing. Matt Kuchar switched to the driver and says he’s “seen an increase in distance and a more consistent ball flight. The change was a no brainer.” Brandt Snedeker admits that he didn’t expect to make the switch so easily. “But when I compared the shot data on Trackman, I was seeing 3 m.p.h. more ball speed and an extra six yards.”
