FORE Magazine: How did your club start?

Audrey Martinez: The original Tropicana Golf Club, founded in 2020, was just a club for people to meet and play golf together. We created a women’s chapter in 2023 to encourage more women to get involved in golf and meet other women who share the same love for the game.

What is the club’s mission?

We want to empower women through golf, foster a sense of community and camaraderie amongst female golfers, provide access to resources and support women of all ages and skill levels.

What made you want to start a club with the SCGA?

I saw a need for a space where women could come together to learn, practice and enjoy the sport of golf without feeling intimidated or overshadowed.

On a scale of super casual to Sunday at the Masters, how competitive does your club get?

We keep it super casual for the most part. However, Tropicana Golf Club also has tournaments where women are encouraged to play and compete.

What can members expect when they join your club?

Members have access to social events, clinics and tournaments. We have exclusive discounts with a variety of brands. Members also have access to Via Verde CC.

What are some short-term initiatives and/or long-term initiatives you’d like to accomplish?

Short-term initiatives would be to host more social events, outings and clinics while participating in charity golf tournaments to give back to the community. The long-term initiatives are expanding the club’s membership base and outreach efforts to attract more women and girls. We also want to establish partnerships with golf courses or organizations to secure discounted rates for club members as well as host larger-scale tournaments or events to showcase the club and promote women’s golf in the community.

Anything else you’d like to add?

Tropicana Girls Golf Club is for everyone. You can be a stay-at-home mom, a businesswoman … anyone. Golf is what connects us, not status. If you are new to the game of golf, we are here to support you as you learn. If you are a well-seasoned player, join the club and help empower other women who are starting off just like you did. Keep on swinging, ladies!
